Comments:

Had a lot of fun with the contest this year; best that I have ever done. The
bands were weird all weekend but there was always someone to work somewhere.
Things were slow going at first but picked up with some openings on 40 & 80
to EU and Africa but you really had to really work to get the Q's. Sometimes
several calls due to QRN and QSB on Friday night. Had some RFI issues that kept
messing up MMTTY but I quickly resolved the problem by tightening a couple of
loose cables. Cut the rig off and went to bed around 1:30 AM, but only got about
two hours sleep so naturally felt like dirt all Saturday. I sure did not feel
like contesting, but managed to plug away at the Q's in zombie mode. Saturday
morning did prove to be fruitful though, EU was wide open on 20 meters allowing
for a ton of mults. Things seemed to go well on 20 and 40 Saturday evening, with
sporadic openings to EU, the Caribbean, and Central America. Saw an op on Cyprus
on 40 but never got to work him.Worked fellow Swamp Fox WN4AFP on 40 meters,
Dave was very loud so took the time to say hello and ragchew for a couple of
minutes. Ran neck and neck with another fellow Swamp Fox KS4YX until late
Saturday evening. Had to go into beast mode and somehow managed to outfox him,
all in good fun. I Got a late start on Sunday morning, slept in until 9 AM,
missing openings to EU I'm sure because when I did get going shortly later, EU
was all over the place. Did some running of US stations on 20 and 40 to get my
total Q count up, which greatly enhanced my score. Set a goal around 300 Q's to
make 500 before the end of the contest, I surpassed that goal and still had 20
minutes on the clock to go. Set a new goal, I wanted to top EA1WX who had quit
at 413,512 and it took me right down to the last two minutes to top his score
with 414,834. Many thanks to all the ops who worked me and CQ Magazine for
putting on a great contest. See you all next time!
