Comments:
Some inclement weather paused, and the contest was run with no issues. All the
hardware worked. Operating definitely needs help. Took more breaks than I
should have. But it was plenty of fun.
Nice run of EU on 80 the first night. Good sunset openings on 40 to EU.
Started at 3:30 PM local time -- wow! JA died its usual death on 40 --
everything the first night was worked beaming WSW, at least the second night had
some direct prop, but rates were so-so. 80m was usually more productive.
15 meters suffered due to my inability to do anything except concentrate on my
20m pileup the first morning. I did manage to work F5MUX with a nice signal on
15, my only EU on that band. More should have been worked. The 20m pileup --
wow, what can I say. I finally learned that the EU guys interpret the sending
of a question mark in any context as a license to transmit like crazy. E.g.,
send G3XXX 599MT and they pause, but send G3XXX? 599MT and the world calls again
(zero beat, of course). I finally learned just to come back to a call even if I
wasn't sure of it. I am sure I busted some calls as a result, simply because
the guy didn't hear me make the mistake (or he/she didn't care) in sending it
back to them.
I was finally getting the hang of "managing" things in this way when
the band folded. You learn something every day!
The second morning was nowhere near as good here as the first. Things died
early, and nobody was strong anyplace.
The WW is a great contest, but it sure is fun to be a multiplier!
