Comments:
Another great run in the USA DX Multi Multi competition during the annual ARRL
International Phone DX contest. Congratulations to the W3LPL team as well as all
multi operator teams for great scores!
We are fortunate to have excellent competition in the Multi Multi category here
in the USA. The weather was factor this year as all of the K3LR operators did
not arrive until 3 hours into the event! Winds the weekend before the contest at
K3LR were above 70 MPH – with some damage, which was taken care of before the
contest. We understand that W3LPL had icing on the their antennas for 18 hours
during the contest!
Changing solar conditions were in play during this contest giving us some very
poor solar weather to deal with. This contest really tested the operators and
the hardware at K3LR! This is one reason we run all out in these major DX
operating events - you never know what will happen! Sharing our awesome
friendship via wireless radio with others around the world is what makes this
the most amazing hobby in the world. My sincere thanks to the talented K3LR
contestmen - very good friends - that traveled from all over to be a part of
this special weekend at K3LR.
Great operators are the secret to doing well in a radio contest and these guys
are some of the very best! Otis, NP4G worked an incredible number of North and
South American stations on 40, 20 and 15 meters.
This contest operation is dedicated to long time K3LR teammate Greg, N3SD. We
were all sad to learn that Greg’s Father died today. Our thoughts and prayers
go out to you Greg.
No K3LR effort happens without the dedicated talented hard work by Dave, W9PA
who puts the computer network together for each contest and helps with many of
the K3LR station projects. Also thanks to Greg, W8WWV for his help creating new
gadgets. Tim, W3YQ did many key repairs to help keep everything working. Thanks
Tim! Very special thanks to Bob, N6TV who has created custom radio setups,
scripts and WinTest help for us all season long. Even during the contest! Many
many thanks TV Bob! Chef Sal WM2H and LIV kept the K3LR team well fed. Simply
awesome food!
