Comments:
This year's SSB edition of the ARRL DX Contest begs a different meaning to the
ARRL abbreviation - A Really Rough Lot.
Zero sunspots and a solar disturbance teamed up for a challenging contest. The
solar roulette wheel timed this latest disruption perfectly to last all weekend
long.
Very tough to keep BIC (butt in chair) with poor propagation and slow rates.
Compounding the problem is many ops either quit early, or never got on at all.
That's how it felt. There were numerous times when rates slowed to a trickle and
frequent S&P journeys up and down the band on day two yielded very little or
nothing at all.
The low bands suffered tremendously the first night with not much improvement
the second night. Anything close to a polar path was shut down. Only worked
eight Europeans on 40m and most of those were LP in the morning.
Like everyone else assisted, I kept a close eye on my mult window waiting for
new mults to appear so I could pounce in an effort to help my sad score.
