K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. N3UM and
W3GB operated Multi-2 in Aug. 2019 NAQP SSB.
W3GB had non-ham obligations till 2020Z. N3UM got on 40m. at 1800Z,
CQd and tuned for 6 min, and heard no signals. With a QSY to 20m.
he got 45 Qs 1807-1910Z, 15 of them in a fast run that died in
15 min. A QSY to 15m. found no signals. On a second try of 40m, he
scraped up 22 slow QSOs in 1.5 hr, then broke for supper at 2050Z.
Meanwhile, W3GB got on 20m. 2025-2210Z; it was slow. He got two
runs going, but only for 5 and 10 Qs. W3GB found rates also slow on
40m, but did well finding mults both there and back on 20m. till
QRT at 0505Z.
N3UM got on 80m. 23-01Z and got 101 Qs, 86 of them running; our
only long run and good rate. N3UM got 3 Qs on 160m. and 17 Qs on
40m, and then alternated between 80 and 160m. till 0505Z QRT.
Simply put, our QSO totals show that we found 80m. good, 20m. OK,
40m. weak, and 160 worth a quick visit. Skip was LONG; we worked
none of the 6 states around MD on 20 or on 40m, i.e. DE, NJ, PA,
VA, and WV, but on 20 we got 18 CA, 12 IL, and 10 TX plus OR, WA,
NV, AZ, and HI, and on 40m. C0, CA, and WA.
On all bands we got 42 states and DC. We claimed 30.2 K, above
the 26.8 K we got in 2018 but below the 43.9 K of 2017. Reasons
were complex; e.g. both past years had more SFI AND worse QRN.
