Comments:
Second year operating from this QTH. The unidentified noise problem still
persists limiting most of the day time operation. With 40mtr vertical is not
functioning efficiently limited to few hours of operation only.
There were couple of incidents to mention First the Power supply produced fumes
after few minutes of switching on. Due to Heavy rains and moisture in coastal
area some poor quality capacitors tend to blowup (and this is second or third
time same issue happened with long time unused power supply). I was not having
spare supply. After bit of check thought of running the contest on battery as it
requires few couple of amps to run with less than 15 watts driving my LDMOS
amplifier. Fortunately a local supply inverter shops lent me used 100AH battery.
I had second incident when I saw a cobra snake around the house. It is not so
uncommon in our area as we live near world's most populated cobra area. However,
we never had many incidents of cobra appearing near or inside home. Again due
heavy rains this time, grounds are very wet outside and lot of vegetation
leading to such incident.
Coming to contest, it was not much special. First day when i got the supply, had
good couple of hours where signal appeared in clear for 15mtr. It was a great
run. Though after few hours noise appeared and stuck till late evening. I could
not operate during the greyline hours. Constantly pumping 400+- watts out of my
amp to hexbeam was a good feeling when stations come, but with broad noise, it
was not at all fun. Bands closed at night except for 40mtr where i had very poor
antenna.
Second day started with a surprise DXped QSO with VP6R at 1:37UT on 20m. It was
in clear and without much pileup and then could not get any interesting morning
QSOs till evening.
W land stations appeared for short-while with booming signals from K3LR, W3LPL
and few more. Caribbean stations such as V26B, PJ4K etc were equally at the best
at around 14UT on 21mtrs. All signals faded away after this short nice opening
and thus closing the show. I persisted bit more to squeeze some more, but that
noise fatigued returned again. Anyways, I am yet to participate in a contest
which is noise free and having good signal pileup to rake up 1500Qs. This time
though it is just around 250Q!
