Final Score = 342624 points.
Overall I had good time in this contest. I felt good and the station
hardware worked without any issues. Conditions, as others have noted,
were not great. It was very challenging at times dealing with
the QSB on signals. 15 meters really opened up well for an hour or
two from here in Central Texas on Sunday. It seemed to be open short
enough to cover a good section of the country. N5RZ who is about 50
miles NW of me was running stations pretty well - and signals were
loud. But it seems that most of the stations on the band were ones
that I had alredy worked so I worked some on the second radio but
could to get enough rate to give up my frequency on 20 meters. The one
new station that I did get on 15m was KP2M for the sweep. By the 04z
hour on Saturday night I had all but KP4 and KP2 in the log. I worked
two KP2 stations - one was someone portable in KP2 that was not really
in the contest. It was not until very late on Sunday that I finally
worked a KP4 that was in the contest - I had managed several contacts
with other KP4 stations that I had to talk through the QSO with.
Interesting to me - one of my last sections was ONN - and it is the
only sectino that I had only one contact with - has it always been
this rare? I spend all weekend beaming right at VE3 and I seem to
have a good signal up so it was surprising to see I only logged one
when I ran the log reports today.
I got off to a pretty good start - over 100 contacts in the first 30
minutes but the frequency was not very clear and for the second half
of the hour things were a bit harder and it only takes a few poor
minutes for the rate to slip away in this contest - and it did. I
ended up with a really fine 188 hour but not the 200+ I keep trying to
get. The following hours were good and I managed to stay above 100 for
the first 7 hours and hour 8 was a 99.
Great job by W7WA - last time I heard him with more than 3 hours of
the contest left he was closing the gap to me - and I knew that I had
to still take an hour off. Sometimes those last hours can be good or
bad so I will be interested to see how things worked out.
