N1MM+ this weekend
First, I apologize for the artifact that affected my microphone audio, but not
the N1MM recorded messages. I worked like heck before the contest to reduce the
Windows audio latency, trying various drivers, etc., and finally got it down to
< 100ms. Somehow, though, my final configuration allowed two
slightly-time-separated mic signals through to the radio. I could not hear it
correctly in the headphones. It did attract a bit of attention from people I
worked, though. Some of their comments were interesting, like:
- Are you using two antennas?
- I’m getting multipath
- I think there’s auroral flutter on you
- You sound like a UA9
- Weird conditions — I’m hearing you both short and long path
I finally settled on a standard retort: “No, that’s a trick I learned from
CBers to sound ((( LOUDER ))).” The more I said it, the more I liked it. We
dipole-dudes need help.
Second, thanks to everyone for the QSOs. Like W7WA, I miss hearing some of the
TT regulars, especially from here in the West. My personal bitch, though, is
the dearth of 24-hour efforts. I have been really surprised by those statistics
learned while doing the writeup the past few years.
A neat thing for the future, though, is the preponderance of check numbers I
received in the 2016-2019 range. Here is a listing from my CabStat file:

The only year that really beats the most-recent four years is 1976.
Another extremely neat thing that happened was that I worked one station in each
of the three Canadian territories that make up the NT section: Yukon (VY1AAA),
NWT (VE8NSD), and Nunavut (VY0ERC). A **REAL** Clean Sweep. Give me 85 mults,
please! Sad to hear that VY1JA/VY1AAA is leaving the scene — those other guys
need to step up!
Here is my pathetic rate sheet:

I have not heard anything to the contrary, so I assume AA5B (who betrayed our
club this weekend and played in Delaware at W3NX) and I will be doing the
results article again this year. Please send any stories, photos, etc. ASAP,
since ARRL HQ is pushing for quick turnaround these days.
