Never in my wildest dreams did I think this was possible at the solar minimum.
This only makes me reevaluate what I think is possible as a single op. QSO
totals over 13,000 are possible with the right conditions in the right QTH.
Thank you to Kam, N3KS, for allowing me to operate such an amazing station.
Continually upgrading and maintaining such a powerhouse station in Central
America is a full time job. Kam and his wife Bertha are the absolute best
hosts, and it is a real treat to hang out with them for a week. I am truly
thankful for the opportunity.
It also occurs to me that maybe Costa Rica is a better location than previously
thought. It is a long way to Europe, especially on the low bands, but the high
bands can make up for it. The balance of USA, EU, and Asia seems to be a pretty
lethal combination. The station engineering at TI7W helps also! (Insert the
usual zone 7/8 2 point vs 3 point land argument here.)
We had a few issues to work through before the contest, but only a couple of
minor ones during. My biggest problem was the 48 hours of zero beat pileups in
two ears. When signals were weak on the low bands, 2BSIQ was really challenging
on the second night. Everyone was seemingly on exactly the same frequency at
exactly the same strength! When someone called off frequency it was a welcome
change. Saturday night was the only time in contesting that I have ever truly
lost my temper. It was that frustrating!
There was a lot of great DX on, and I really appreciate the effort everyone put
in to being a multiplier. Some really memorable QSO's this year...I love it!
A few goals were met this contest:
-Break 10,000 QSO's after log check (I assume this will happen!)
-Break 11,000 QSO's after log check (I HOPE this one will happen)
-Break the CQWW CW record set by N5TJ@EA8BH in 2000. Not expected to hold up
after log check, Jose will surely hold the record now from D4C. Did NOT expect
to break the record from zone 7.
-Have a 400 hour on CW. CBS (below) shows a 391 hour, but SH5 shows a 402 hour.
I guess we will see what the official CQWW results show. Either way, a personal
best and 402 sounds cooler than 391.
-Win the "2 point land battle"

love that we push each other so much. Sometimes you get lucky with things, and
it just fell in my favor this year. Congratulations to all of them on great
scores. None of these scores seemed possible even 5 years ago. Amazing! Also
a great LP score by AA3B@V26K. Wow!
