Comments:

We couldn't put in a full-time effort on this one. Janusz/SP9JZT, visiting his
daughter who works on the campus, joined John/W6LD and Pete/K6TJ in working on
our 160 antenna and Beverages in preparation for the CQ 160 CW contest next
weekend.

In the third hour of the contest, while the other guys continued to work on the
antennas, I got on for an hour SO2R on 15 and 20. 15 was surprisingly still open
and I worked 16 mults. It was hard to get much of a rate going on 20. The band
was already packed and when I tried running on what seemed to be an open
frequency I'd hear from one of my callers that there was another 6 or 7 on the
frequency.

When we'd finished the antenna work John stuck around and put in another hour,
more than doubling our Qs and adding some on 40 in addition to 20.

I wasn't able to get back to the shack until the final hour and mostly planned
to see what could be worked on 160 with the refurbished double-L antenna. I
worked almost everything I heard - exceptions being K0EU (who reported his only
RX antenna was to the east), K9CT who I heard calling others but not CQing, and
K5RT who I thought was calling me but it turned out was CQing on the same
frequency and not hearing me. Farthest east on 160 was CO or WY.

Conditions on the low bands were not as good as last weekend, although maybe it
was just lack of activity in the final hour. I couldn't get anything going on
either 40 or 80.

Look for us in CQ 160 CW.

73,
-Mike, N7MH
