Comments:
This was great fun and what we felt was astonishing success. With my 130-foot
wire antenna from MyAntennas.com at a high point of 50 feet (and now sporting a
new 2K transformer) my son, Jevon, KE6YLH --who was also operating in the shack
-- and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Another thing that helped us be heard was
a recent addition in the shack, the Elecraft "Power Combo," consisting
of the KPA500 amp and KAT500 antenna tuner. Are we really at the bottom of the
solar cycle? Since neither Jevon nor I have worked a lot of DX in the past, we
felt like what we experienced over the weekend was operating we had only dreamed
about.
Jevon worked a few more countries than I did, but I made a few more contacts. It
was great being the center of attention since we in North America were the ones
the DX stations were trying to work. We concentrated on working as many
different countries as we could although we put in a little time calling CQ and
had some success. Our most thrilling catches (via S&P) were South Africa,
Brunei and several Chinese stations.
Thanks to everyone for the Qs. 73 and can't wait till next year! Larry
