Comments:

Despite reporting in with 2nd highest mixed score and highest LP, it was pretty
tough on 40 again this year. The only mobile CW or phone I worked was N4E and
that was a huge struggle on 40 with only about 3 Q's all day; I had no problem
once they went to 80. I heard N4FP only once and he could not hear me. Bert,
N4CW and K4TMO had to cancel their plans due to Bert having a health issue; Bert
says he's feeling much better now. The NE part of the state was in my skip zone
virtually all day where N4E was operating. There was a station in Dare on phone
who went up to S9+ for a while. In general, 40 opened well to south and farther
away than Raleigh around 1615Z and by 20Z most stations were in the noise again.
>From 17-18Z most areas had decent signals. I was beaten out by many PA, NJ, and
NY stations who were inaudible here as they were also skipping over me. Even
when signals seemed good on 40 phone the volume of past years just was not
there. 75 phone and 80 CW were okay with nearly as many Q's as on 40 which was
active for far more hours. At 2029Z I took 45 minutes off as 40 was nearly
completely closed and almost no one was on 80.

Next year almost has to be better; this is the low point. Thanks to all of the
CW and phone guys who activated rare counties and provided Q's. Buncombe and
Mecklenburg seemed to have the highest activity. Score should include bonuses
for working NI4BK and sweeping the TARHEEL stations who were very active, but
not 100% sure. I had some fun at times.

73, Jeff N8II
