Comments:

The Volta has a generous scoring system: QSOs * mults * points from the DLDC CQ
Zone scoring table. This makes for huge scores. It's fun to see them rocket up.

The DLDC table has always intrigued me. I've fiddled with it to rescore CQ WW
contest logs, my own versus peers. The jury is still out on it. Or hung.

Initially conditions were abysmal, participation sparse, nobody answered my
CQs.

I had a lot of time to sit around doing unproductive thinking. Here's what I
came up with:

This contest generates millions of points, although a million isn't what it used
to be. Still, it's a biggish number and deserves some respect.

Try this experiment:

Here you see 1000 dots. If you blink your eyes 999 times, you will have seen 1
million dots. Start now.

................................................................................................

................................................................................................

................................................................................................

................................................................................................

................................................................................................

................................................................................................

................................................................................................

................................................................................................

................................................................................................

................................................................................................

Okay. Consider what you just saw. Then consider one billion. Then one trillion.

Now put $$ signs in front of those numbers. Think about it.

Back to the contest. Eventually things picked up and I had no more idle time to
devise cruel experiments.

Still no one answered my CQs. I had 129 QSOs and 6 were from calling CQ. That's
4.65%. Or 9.30 proof, which sounds better. I'll drink to that.

I used the W1W call for eight days, intending to support the Waltham Steampunk
Festival but it was cancelled. I decided to use the call anyway to celebrate
Waltham's industrial history on the W!W qrz.com page, but I didn't pursue that
subject vigorously. I had trouble concentrating on such matters under the
circumstances. In the end I just operated for fun and distraction. In that
regard it was a good eight day week.

On the ninth day I rested.

The W1W call expired for me halfway through the contest at 2400z May 9, Saturday
evening local time. That's because I originally wanted it for the festival which
would have been over by then and I'd be done operating. Eight days of what was
essentially a continuous personal contest would be enough. And it was.

Take a look at the W1W qrz.com page for a summary.

Thanks a million for the QSOs.

Stay safe and well.

73,
Ken, AB1J

Station - the usual suspects: Flex 6500, N1MM+, MMTTY, 2Tone, sneaky hidden
wires, old op, that's all, Amen.
