Comments:
First off I must give a big thank you to KD5IKG and KA5D for all the help in
getting me on the air above 50Mhz! I had originally planned to go rovering with
these two but due to a few factors I had to cancel at the last minute. I
decided to go ahead and get on and at least make a few contacts this afternoon.
This was my first time in a VHF contest, I set-up at the scenic overlook off of
Loop 360 in Austin, TX. Antennas were Horizontal Loops on 6 and 2 meters and an
11 element Yagi on 432. Made a couple of 2M FM contacts using the mobile whip
on my car. I ran 5 watts. It was a good test for my new 20Ah Bioenno Battery.
It helped me get my feet wet, and gave me some ideas for improvement for
portable operating. I do eventually want to do a rovering trip, even if it is
just loops and mag-mounts. Thanks to everyone who worked me! It was fun, a
beautiful day for radio in Austin!
