Got up at 7:10 am and went outside to wave to the grandkids as their school bus
went by. They have told us they see us, but it is difficult to see then because
they are not tall enough to be seen over then seats. Nice fall day brewing,
overcast, chilly and quiet, so I wanted to try low power to see how I stack up.
37 WPM. SteppIR worked on 40 bidirectional. First dash in sidetone is cut off
and perhaps slow to go into RX because first dit or dash is missing or guys
start sending too soon which means lots of editing of the call sign field. Flex
6600 still hangs in TX when use the paddles. 7.029 very clear frequency, but
took 10 CQs at the beginning to attract attention.
1315Z reached 37 QSOs because of the slow start, but a good run going now.
Reached 50 QSOs at 1319Z. 1330Z had 84 QSOs and a steady stream. Sipping
coffee. At 1345Z had 115. No real short skip. Missed the 10 W9s who are
usually active, but did manage to catch N7US! Did not catch AB7MP who is
usually a sign that the band is open out west. K6RB and N5KO were loud. KM6Z
and WA6URY did not make it to the log.
Today I will work on preparing the grounding loops for the 80 meter 4 square.
Still waiting for wire and the mounting poles to arrive, but the crops are not
in yet, so there is some time. Tomatoes are still in the garden and the leaves
have not dropped, but fall is coming. Working on caulking and some winterizing
projects.
