Comments:
I operated from the W5KFT station this weekend, which still puts out a fine
signal with the antennas put up in 1993. While the antennas worked great, I had
trouble with just about everything else.
I'm sure I'm one of the last folks still using TR-LOG for DOS. I've been doing
SO2R with it for almost 20 years, and it just works GREAT. I have some great
old computers that will still run it, but they won't last forever.
So this weekend, I decided to do a serious SO2R effort with N1MM – and a new
SO2R box. I've done a little N1MM SO2R before, but something was really
glitchy. I got lots of aborted messages and also messages sent to the wrong
radio. Still no clue what the root cause was. I operated low power for about
an hour and saw the same problems, so I don't think it was RFI.
And one of my rigs was misbehaving. TX and RX would konk out, but I discovered
(in frustration) that a little smack on the top would get it back on line!
Anyway, I threw in the towel on a serious effort late Saturday night, got a good
night's sleep and operated off and on Sunday.
Apologies for my QLF moments. There was great activity and good conditions, and
I copied some FB QSO numbers.
