My antenna shouldn't load up on 80 meters, but it does. I only put about 20
watts at most into it on 80 meters so I don't stress the tuner out. That said,
40 meters was very difficult tonight, and I had an easier time using my
electrically short antenna on 80 meters with 12 watts than I did on 40 meters
(which it's built for) with 100 watts.
I have the other operators on the SST to thank for my growing CW confidence. I
am inching my speed up, copying the exchange right the first time more often,
and actively looking for more CW contests. Everyone has been so friendly that I
am not afraid of making mistakes. I look forward to this event every week.
