Comments:

Well this was the first time that we attempted to use remote operators here at
W1TJL and there was a fairly steep learning curve. Both for the setup of the
station, and the operators. We used AnyDesk for the desktop sharing app and
Mumble / Murmur for the audio. The Mumble platform (Murmur is the host server
on the radio’s PC) has very low latency and users (many) can connect to it to
listen to the radio output. The control of the radio and entry into the logging
window were all done thru N1MM and AnyDesk allowed the remote users fast and
reliable access to the radios and logging.

It was exciting to see a K of 106 on Friday and Saturday and 116 on Sunday!
Propagation was good and runs were many. We were operating Multi-Single but
were handicapped by the 2nd 4 element SteppIR not working which kept us from
using the Mult station to full advantage. That gets diagnosed this week as soon
as the rain stops!

We had a number of great operators using remote operating and two of us here at
the station. Frank K1EBY and I were here and did things like operate, switch
the amp from band to band (none of my 4 amps do that without knob and switch
turning), and some other changes that required access to a knob on the radio.
Remote operators were Jay W1UJ, Mark NB1U, Mike N1EN, Dallas K1DW, Chuck NO5W
and Tom N1MM. They could handle all the things that were remote enabled such or
automatic. Examples are antenna switching and rotor turning.

Now that the contest is over, the next steps/things to fix/improve/change are:

• Make SteppIR 2 work
• Set up and test 2 way audio for phone contests
• Fix the Beverage antennas yet again – more trees fell!

I want to thank Dave K1TTT for the configuration hints for Mumble / Murmur setup
and Tom N1MM for the MANY hours testing, troubleshooting, and setting up of the
software. This remote contest would not have happened otherwise.

73, Tom W1TJL
