Comments:
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. N3UM and
W3GB did Multi-Op HP in the 2020 ARRL 10 M test.
Our goal was to beat our 2018 claim, best one in the sunspot-poor
years since 2015. It was fun to do that with 2X as many Qs, 1.6X
as many mults, and 3X the score. SFI of 82 vs 72 in 2018 helped;
we saw a yeasty mix of F layer, sporadic-E, and a few meteors.
As has worked well for us before, we took ~40 min. turns at start
for each mode and op. CW was good; in 2 turns N3UM got 70 Qs and
21 mults, FL to CO plus PY. SSB was slow; in his 1st turn W3GB
got 9 Qs and 6 mults, IL to TX plus PY. At 02Z N3UM quit to sleep
and come back early Sat. AM.
W3GB took his 2nd turn at 02Z hoping it was better than his first.
It was! SSB rates went up in each of 3 hrs, and by 05Z he got 105
more Qs, 71 in a 1-hr. run, and 24 mults, out to XE and CO. He got
us to 188 Qs and 52 mults at 0511Z QRT, with 4 Qs and ZF on CW.
Sat. AM, N3UM got 54 CW Qs in 2.1 hr. after 1418Z. W3GB then got
53 SSB Qs in 1.7 hr. Each got some SA cty mults. N3UM had a good
2-hr turn with 47 Qs 1848-2045Z, many PYs and LUs.
After 2045Z the band died; we tried off and on till 0130Z and
scraped up just 25 LOS Qs, 1 Q in FL, and no mults!
Sun. was much better, with far St/Pv mults. N3UM 1420-1540Z got
26 CW Qs and 10 mults, 4 in W1 plus NE, SD, MT, QC, NS, and SK.
W3GB 1550-1830Z got 45 SSB Qs, 30 running, with AZ and CA, and 7
CW Qs with KS and NV. N3UM 1835-2055Z got 61 CW Qs, 16 in CA,
plus BC, WA, OR, ID, and UT mults.
SFI of 82 got us 215 SSB Qs and ZS, D4, and V5 in AF, but no EUs
vs 5 on CW, and 44 total mults vs 70 on CW. Will SFI of (say) 110
close those gaps on 10 M, and offset 2 vs 4 pts/QSO?
