Soapbox :
In the weeks before the Stew and capitalizing on warm WX breaks,
I deployed a W1AEX inspired RX Delta loop. Put in on the air
Christmas day evening and it seemed to be playing well.
Planned to start at local sunset and work in the max 14 hours
until sunrise.
Ready to go at start, loop is deaf as a doornail! Made 1Q, and
immediately turned into my first 30 minute break. Check connections,
they are OK, walk dog, play with dog, back to it.
I deployed the loop without a pre-amp as my experience with other
small form factor RX ant never really indicated any need for pre-amps.
This one clearly does after playing with it throughout the contest.
Room for improvement.
Listened to some of the YCCC big guns work a steady stream of Europeans
early in the evening that I couldn't hear a whisper out of. Took
some steam out of my motivation, but I was up for an all-nighter.
This retirement gig is great. You can get away with crazy things
like that ;-)
Took a few hours on and off to figure out the N1MM+ {ANTRX#TOGGLE}
macro but once I did, sure helped keep the hands focused on the keyboard.
I am dreading the bust report. Rapid QSB conspired to kill the
grid square dozens of times. NIL'ed at least 2 potential Eu contacts
as I just couldn't pull out that last digit. This is going to be ugly.
Hacked at it until local sunrise. That was good for a few more
West Coast stations but wasn't hearing any Pacific, so I pulled
the plug after 11:43 minutes.
73,
Ken - WO1N
