Comments:
First of all, many thanks to W9KKN Bill and NW6P Tom for use of the ultra-FB
station on a hill in Sunnyvale, CA. Bill even loaned me his Maestro, which made
a HUGE difference, compared to my single FlexControl that I use in CWT. For
once, I would not accidentally tune off my run freq. when running remotely! (If
anyone has a Maestro they want to sell me, please contact me... I'm good on
QRZ!)
And the contest? It was a blast!! Like CWT on steroids. The first couple hours
were crazy fast (with an hour that nearly broke a rate of 200 and the 10 minute
hitting 400), but 15m went south much sooner than I had hoped and I didn't get
very many mults there, despite doing a sweep fairly early. Not sure about
whether my breaks could have been better timed... it seems like there's no good
time to take them...I felt like I missed out on some of 40m, and 80m just
started to open at the end; I contemplated taking a half hour at 0500z, but
decided to just finish at 0530 cuz I was bushed!
Lsat year, I did this contest from N6RO, a very different station with stacked
yagis. This year, I managed to make nearly as many QSOs but I lost out on mults
on 15 and 80 (though I had more this year on 40 and 20). I did not have access
to 160m, which of course had an impact on the score. Still, I'm happy with my
result, though I was certainly not free of QLFs... apologies if you were on the
receiving end.
And most of all, I had a blast!!! (oh, I already mentioned that.)
