This was my second VHF contest, and I once again participated in the SOFM
category since that is about all I'm set up for. NV4B and N4GLE had roving
operations nearby which were huge boons to my score. I was very happy about the
contacts I was able to make on 223.500 MHz. I used a Baofeng HT with a DIY yagi
on a painter's pole for 220. It wasn't exactly a performer, but it netted me 3
Qs and two grids.
I am looking forward to getting some yagis up in the future to really dial in my
SOFM performance. Hopefully, I can also persuade some locals to get active in
future contests as the additional contacts would be hugely beneficial and would
make for a busier, more fun weekend.
