Comments:

Decided to jump in this years contest at the last minute, with no real plan of
attack. I had a good start on Friday night with pretty decent band conditions on
40 meters for DX. At times it sounded like there was some long path conditions
going on. Worked stations from EU, Russia, Africa, South and Central America,
& the Caribbean. 80 and 160 were fairly quiet on Friday night so picked up a
number of US stations on 80 but surprisingly few on 160.

Had the pleasure of meeting one of our new club members Scott N2OG Saturday
afternoon. He stopped by to meet me on his way back to Greenville and check out
my station. When he arrived, Scott surprised me with one of his homebrew air
launchers that the members of the SFCG all pitched in to buy for me. It was a
very nice gift and I was overwhelmed by the generosity of the guys in our club.
Now I can finally get my wires more than 20 feet in the air!

There were some bad storms in the upstate Saturday that seemed to bring on the
QRN and made 20/40 weak. 40 was pretty much closed with the exception of a few
US stations with a path mainly toward the Ohio valley. I sat for hours both
Saturday and Sunday listening and trying to work EU on 20 meters with very
little success. 15 was open to South America and the Caribbean but again the
conditions were poor and Q's were far and in between.

Things picked up a late Sunday afternoon to EU on 20 meters so I was able to
work several EU mults From Norway & Finland down to Sicily. I decided to
make a move to 40 around 2030 as the band opened up plus I was tired of S&P
and wanted to run. Spots to do this filled up quickly so timing was of the
essence. I had to move three times to avoid QRM from other stations parking
extremely close to my frequency. Once I finally found a quiet spot I had a
pretty decent run of US stations. I saw K3DNE spotted on 40 but never hear him
or for that matter any other club stations.
