Comments:
I was able to put in more time than last year's effort, but I think my planned
absence from 1930Z to 2330Z hurt this year's score more than it did last year's
score. Haven't yet compared band totals for this year with those of recent
years, but it sure felt like a lot more 1-point Qs on all bands this year. The
most significant station change since last year is loss of my Lazy H, which was
replaced (sort of) by a low 135 foot doublet used on all bands. The doublet
works, but the Lazy H was the secret sauce for QRP on the high bands. I will
raise the doublet and rebuild the Lazy H before fall/winter contest season.
Thanks to all for copying my weak signals - I have a feeling that the LCR is
going to have a few busted Qs even though most stations stuck with me - a lot of
callsign confusion with many folks hearing me as K8CT, K7CT or K8CC (Dave is SK,
but the call was taken by his brother Tom who is not yet a contester. I need to
check the on-air sound of my call to see if the K3 keying needs a weight
adjustment to improve punch on that last letter!
I no longer get frustrated by lack of EU Qs early in this contest - not jaded, I
just know what propagation is likely to provide and there's still an occasional
surprise to keep IARU HF fun.
73,
Mike, K8CN
Rig: K3/10 at 5 watts, 135 foot doublet at 40 feet above ground, fed with ladder
line and K3's internal ATU
