Comments:

Got home from a couple months on the road and turned the station back on
Thursday night before the contest. As usual the computers all needed updating
and at first wouldn’t even connect to the Flex radio. Got that resolved then
found out my high 6el tribander was useless on 10M, but the 4 element at 35 feet
was playing OK. Good for F2 and Es but not as good for brute force QSOs to
close in states. Consequently struggled with MN and missed MO and MI. But at
least I could play.

Friday was pretty much a total bust with one decent Ms burst in the first hour
that yielded one QSO to a friend K0JU in CO. Heck of a start. Got up Saturday
to a dead band but after I made a pot of coffee and a little breakfast things
started to come alive just before 1500Z. Just a pitiful few, but by 1700Z SA
was workable and stayed in for a few hours. No Caribbean, Central America or EU
but a least Qs into the log at a very slow pace until 2200 when Es finally
appeared moving up and down the east coast and I could get a little pileup going
for the next few hours, nothing spectacular and no great rate, but by 0200 when
it appeared to die off I had a few shy of 300 Qs in the log. Made supper for me
and N2KMA who was still not feeling up to par, cleaned up then relaxed for a bit
– good thing I checked back in 2 hours later and there was a nice little Es
opening out west that was pretty thin but got me well over 300. Probably missed
out on some of that.

Sunday the band came alive about the same time but a lot better. Sevens and
Zeros until 1800 when CA and the west coast finally started going into the log.
High point was working FR4KR and hearing two other FR stations conversing in
French. Only AF I heard or worked. Missed MT (saw it spotted but couldn’t get
through) but logged the rest minus AK and HI of course. Had one and only one
weak VE7 call me. No VE5 or 6 at all. In fact the only other VE I worked was
VE4. SA came back in, mostly the same stuff except OA4SS, but again hardly any
Caribbean (Only PJ2A and KP4AA). Only 2 Mexican states (heck only 2 XE Qs).
Heard no PZ no HK no FY though some were spotted. Lots of SA just never showed
up. Pretty frustrating. Just barely cleared 500 Qs when the band totally
dropped out around 2030Z, never to return.
