A huge thank you as always to Andrew ZF1EJ and CARS for allowing us to use the
station. This was our first trip back to ZF since the start of COVID. It was
great to set foot in the shack again and see some of our friends.
It seems like we have been teased with the possibility of 10m being open during
many of the recent major contests, only to have the band be dead. Based on the
solar forecasts it looked like it was shaping up to be more of the same, but
that was not the case at all. We had just over 1000 q's on 10m the first day,
and it took a bit longer to open the 2nd day, but once it did open it was open
wide again for many hours.
We got off to an amazing start, and that is when thoughts about the record began
to creep into our heads. We did some research and set our sights on it. After
the great 10m opening the first day we knew it was within reach, but really
needed that solid opening on day 2 to have a chance. We ended up a bit ahead of
the claimed record from TI7W that was set in '16, but it's way too close to be
sure. We will be eagerly awaiting the final results for this one.
