Comments:
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. As the only
available CW op, I (N3UM) did SOHP U in the 2022 ARRL CW DX test.
My goal was to ~match the 1224 Qs I got doing SOHP in the 2016 ARRL
CW. Nope; in 2022, I got 0.88X the Qs in 0.9X the hrs; BIC is key.
I did beat the ~650-920 Qs I got doing M-2 with W3GB 2017-2021.
At start, 40 M was OK; I ran for 122 Qs and 29 mults 00-02Z and
clicked spots 0210-0348Z for 101 more 40-M Qs & 30 mults. From
0358-0517Z on 80 M I got 87 Qs & 45 mults, then 25 Qs & 19 mults
on 160M. At 0552Z QRT, I had 335 Qs and 123 mults.
On 20 M 1613-1753Z I ran for 131 of 142 Qs at 92/hr + 42 mults, then
quit to eat. Sat. PM 1829-2139Z was steady but slow; I got 78 Qs on
20 M and 58 on 20 M + 54 mults. Still slow after supper; 0024-0255Z,
57 Qs on 40, 35 on 80, & 6 on 160 M. Then 0303 to 0312Z QRT, 6 Qs
and 5 mults on 20 M; OA, ZP, LU, XE, & ZL.
In the AM, rates were good on 20 M; 1254-1536Z I got 201 Qs, 122 in
a run at 83/hr, mostly EUs. Then 1545-1622Z 44 Qs on 15 M, also EUs,
29 in a run at 94/hr.
After lunch 1914-2117Z, I got 53 Qs on 20 M + AK, JA, & VK, and
17 Qs on 15 M + AK, VK, & KH7. I got a last 51 Qs in 55 min. 2121-
2216Z, fast-clicking EU spots on 40 M. Q totals show that Kp of
3 & 5 in dark hours was bad for 80 and 160 M, but not for 40 M.
