This was my first full SSB contest ever after being a ham for 53 years. My
effort was intended to be a test to see if I might work the CQ WW DX SSB later
this year and it did not disappoint. Quite a learning experience. There were
issues with setting up the radio and the brand new headset turned to be the
wrong model so I ended up using the hand mic which worked out just fine. As I
had noticed in a bit of SSB contest dabbling long ago my voice begins to give
out early in an SSB 'test even though I speak normally. The radio's voice keyer
saved the day there when calling CQ and doing S&P.
A CME that hit at the beginning of the contest but the bands seemed to recover
some later on. I checked 10m periodically but did not see any activity. 75m
would have helped and I will have an antenna for that next year. All in all it
was a fun one contest with great ops. Thanks for the contacts!
