Comments:
Sorry it took a while to post.. I woke up this morning and decided to paint a
tower. I am not here that much so it had to be done.
I am truly amazed at some of the totals possible in this category.
What N6MJ and KL9A do boggles the mind. So sorry Chris could not finish the
contest, it was an epic battle.
My entire goal was to make 10000 Qsos. I felt good early in the week, but a
problem at the site took it's toll on me, and I was very tired going into the
start.
A company that distributes Wifi to parts of the island uses our site as a hub.
When I TX on 160M, it shuts them down. After 2 days of troubleshooting including
Friday, we could not fix the issue. I was able to convince them to give me the
ability to reset their system by an extension cord that would just have to be
reset.
This worked perfectly, but after all this and some arguing my attitude going in
was poor.
I tried to nap but it was impossible.. Then I tried to make my dinner in the
microwave.. And blew the voltage transformer. All this at 23Z. Luckily I had a
spare so all was not lost.
My 24 hour goal of 7000 qs was not reached. Somewhere along the line I realized
my computer was sending choppy CW. I could not fix it, just seemed to get better
for a little while after restarting DXLog, but wouldn't last long. There were
tons of stations that didn't know I came back to them because the CW was
unreadable.
Another thing was I would type callsigns but there were characters missing. This
is something new. I am not convinced it was the keyboards, they were new.
Another mystery, but the answer is I need to upgrade the computer here... It's
more important than worrying about antennas anymore.
So I slept in the chair for a while on Saturday night.. I knew I wouldn't reach
my goal, so I just operated for the fun. It started to get really good on Sunday
morning, and everything just went dead. The electric power was off. I said to
myself, this year is not meant to be. But I just went out and fired up the
generator. It is not that easy to to transfer over..Takes about 15 minutes. But
it worked perfectly. Another computer thing is it takes 10 mins to restart all
the programs I need. I have a UPS, but the batteries are dead :)
The band conditions were amazing, and my most fun was working JA/BY and other
asia at the end on 15M. At one point I realized the amp was off.. Didn't make
any difference the band was so hot.
Having said all that, I still did my all time best. Maybe 10K Qs for the next
time.
I know I need a new computer, and maybe some gaming keyboards like I have at
home.
Congratulations to all the guys in this crazy category, it can really take a
toll on the human body.
CT1ILT did a great job making the 10K club this time around. My CW was much
better when I sent by hand using the beautiful 3D paddle he made for the
station.

And to AA3B who had 9K qsos LP.. Truly a mutant (in a good way)
