Comments:
Great propagation conditions make operating a joy.
This contest was lead by VU2VTI with 4 members to start with. Due to personal
reasons, two members dropped out a week prior. So we ended up with two member
operating two stations. This is 4th major contest from the location this year.
We had spiderbeam at 55feet level and TS590 with amplifiers for both stations.
Due to my other commitments, I could reach the site Friday afternoon and setup
40m Halfsquare antenna and a low dipole for 80m. While on 40m, we could work a
lot of stations, our installation of 80m antenna was not enough to gain any
interest during the contest.
Waking up on contest day to chirping of birds and sound of waves hitting the
shores is experience by itself. After a slow start to the morning and a quick
breakfast break, VU2VTI switched to 15m and VU2XE to 10m. Unsure if 10m would be
open that early, but persistently doing S&P for a while, found that signals
are going farther. Pileups had no stopping till late evening on 10m. 20m band
was not that much good from here. At night our Halfsquare worked great on 40m.
Being in close proximity to sea shore helps as well. There were no hiccups. All
filters worked as expected, no issues with amps, cables and antennas.
Being a academic research station, there were group of student visitors coming
in batches for watching. Other than silent clicks and logger maps on screen,
they could not makeout anything for sure hi!. Some students cameback for second
time to understand the antennas and station setup etc. Non contest volunteers
did fine job of explaining the station and event.
There was plenty of food supplies, thanks to student volunteers, VU2ABU and
VU2SBJ for their visit with snacks and refreshing drinks.
We kept going all the time with only 4 hours sleep each night. Thanks to project
head and staff who were around to support us. We are happy as hams to contribute
our small part in their large scheme of socially impactful project-
"SEARCH".
Hope we made the AT3K ring in many of your ears!
Thank you for all the fun..
DE VU2XE Kiran
