I mentioned this during the parasitics debate, Jerry.  As I recall, the 
Collins KWS-1 also used a rheostat to adjust 4CX250B's heater V.  Terry, 
W6TG, said that he services around ten broadcast transformers that have 
adjustable filaments.  However, the Rauchian camp formed a united front, 
began chanting 'Rheostats Bad', 'Rheostats Bad', and reason became 
treason.
