Only hams use strings of electrolytics, Frank. All commercial and the best
Amateur amps all use oils. Electolytics are a cheap and easy way to cram
lots of mfd into a table-top amp that you can carry out of the store
easily. No other advantage.

I have converted/built many amps using the above cap with great results.
These caps are readily available on the surplus market now at a very
reasonable price. I have used them in series/parallel to get more mfd and
or higher voltage rating. Go for it!
