Larry et al:
This may be stale or old-hat information but for what it is worth:
I would suggest the superb screen regulator article by our own G3SEK in
the October 1997 QEX.
I would be skittish about introducing cathode resistance in that tube.
The phase shift that could be introduced by lead lengths could decrease
stability on the higher frequencies. There are also many varieties of
the basic SK-800/SK-810/SK-890 series sockets; you must be sure which one
There are many examples of single and dual tube 4CX1000A/4CX1500B home
brew amps on the air all the way up to 2M. Check around on the weak
signal VHF reflectors for some advice...if they can build it stable for
6M...that is "progress".
I would also try and obtain schematics from Command, Emtron and any other
company that is using the Svetlana 4CX1600B. There should be excellent
information on no hassle input circuits, protection, etc.
