I have run 6146B's with about 1100 - 1200 volts on the plates. If you have
plenty of air flow, don't use much speech compression, don't run RTTY or
SSTV or contests, you might get away with it for quite a while, but you will
need about 200 volts on the screens. Running 6146s in grounded grid will
need experimentation: passive grid would be better. The alternative is
perhaps the Svetlana EL509: that's probably an easier change, but will cost
more.
