There is no special reason to have a certain lenght of cable between 
transmitter and amplifier if the input of the amplifier has been 
perfectly matched to the nominal impedance and coupled for the maximum 
energy transfer.
The above is quite a rare event on all bands and if the Amplifier input 
has been tuned (or it is not a tuned one) to the transmitter output 
with a certain lenght of cable in between, this cable is actually a 
part of the matching/coupling system and, if everything works, the best 
way to save time and avoid problems is to keep this lenght. (when known)
