I read the original article, Ian.  Thanks.  Thornley makes no mention of 
how he managed to get around the 3/2-power law.  Also, there is no 
mention about the grid/screen phase difference problem.   My guess is 
that Thornley would not have got this article past *QST*'s technical 
editor George Grammer.  
 A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
