Thanks to the many responders for the excellent and friendly advice and
counsel. General consensus:
1. One tube is generally less hassle, quieter, and usually less expensive
than two.
2. If I have a good solid, working Mk II that easily puts out 1200-1300
watts of clean, reliable signal (which it does), then why not keep using it
and forget the extra couple of hundred watts, which would be worth about 0.2
s-units or so on the other end.
Let's see, $3K divided by 200 = $15 per watt.   Hmmmmm....  Kind of like
quadrupling the power in a displacement hull boat to get 2 more knots of
speed...   :-)
