There is indeed a "conventional" metering system that allows you to
ground the grid directly, and still be able to measure grid and anode
currents separately. Unfortunately this is another area where there's a
lot of "monkey see, monkey do", so you can't reliably copy just any
published metering system. Some contain serious technical mistakes -
they either measure the wrong things and/or fail to protect both meters
adequately.
