is that a tube PTO, running relatively high power? They tend to be pretty good.
One of the quietest signal generators I've come across is the pre war Marconi
TF144G. That has a triode with about 200volts on the plate, running around 2-1/2
watts input, and very high Q tuned circuits (large diameter coils) with a low
loss air spaced tuning cap. With KTB at -174dBm/Hz, and about +27dBm of RF,
you've got a good SNR to start with. Trouble is, it drifts like Kon-tiki.....
