That is very interesting and something I for one overlooked. Given you
have reactance in the windings, the phase could well be load dependant.
i.e. whatever phase difference occurs off load, is not the same as on
load. A real nightmare.

The core would tend to keep the fields inside. I know audio fans buy
transformers with low radiated fields, but I doubt the radiated fields
would be sufficient to cause any adverse effect here (but there are
plenty of things that will). I suspect this would be the least of the
worries.
