Hi Mike, and fellow amp'ers.

You are keying a large mechanical relay on the Metron.
Sounds like you are not sinking enough current through
your interface. The PTT jack on the Metron shorts to ground to make it key up. 
Anytime the main
power switch
on the Metron is on, you will be pulling some current, even when not keyed up. 
A car battery
and a 15 amp
charger will power the Metron nicely on SSB. Caution;
anything over about 70watts of drive will burn up the resistor network on the 
input. I hope
