I was visiting Prague last week, and spent an afternoon in the Czech
Technical Museum, which I believe was formerly a closed institution
under the communist government. After spending a few hours with
airplanes, railroads and motorcycles, I was surprised to discover a
second floor telecommunications exhibit, with much sponsorship from
Phillips, Seimens, and Tesla (the local manufacturer). They had a
very nice wireless exhibit, both spark and CW, and had a complete
mock up radio traffic station from early 1930s. Also, parts of two
scanning disk televisions! And many ancient radios. I had read about
Nipkow televisions, but to find them exhibited...! The clincher was a
giant antenna helix from a LF station and a 75 kW and 250 kW water
cooled tube made by Tesla. If you happen to be in the neighborhood,
check this place out.
