I should probably go off on you, but I won't.

Instead, it is my most fervent wish that you carry yourself and both your
remaining brain cells down to the nearest real library, and look at
professional journals such as the Proceedings of the IEEE, the Journal of
American Medicine, the New England Journal of Medicine, and maybe some
others -- and see how professionals share the findings of their research.

That does NOT mean that these researchers are giving away any trade secrets
or competitive advantages. They are SHARING the knowledge they have found.

If some process or idea is so significant that it needs protection by
patent, then it certainly should be patented before disclosure -- in fact,
US patent law specifically requires that ideas for patent be filed before
public disclosure; otherwise, the idea is released to the public domain.

Inventors and great thinkers should be well-compensated for their toils.
At the same time, the obvious benefits from these endeavors should NOT be
withheld from the public. Otherwise, their work spent developing a great
breakthrough in technology is work merely pissed down the toilet.
