yes they are very effective---i had to make a very simple, quick slow start
when i first fired up a pole pig transformer into a new power supply for my
2x813 amp, it would trip the 20 amp breaker (120 volt), or smoke a 3 amp
rectifier in the stack. just used a desk lamp with a 75 watt lamp in
it--used a common light switch in a box to short it out after voltage
reached 1000 volts or so--works great. but sad to say i haven't taken time
to upgrade this slightly messy approach with something more proper. after
all it's only been 2 1/2 years or so--hi--hi 73 to the reflector w5set
