Yes, I think you are being a simpleton (on this issue). You have no right to 
sit back there in your armchairs and hurl out criticisms of the many groups 
of people in the fields of science and engineering who have spent their 
lifetimes on the methodology AND theory of making precise calculations.

I have had the pleasurable experience of working in one such group, a group 
which did some of the pioneering work on CAE in electronics. Fortunately for 
the world, this work done by numerical analysis experts and programmers has 
led to computer tools which have been directly responsible for great progress 
in all branches of science and engineering.

For you to imply that these people have all wasted their time is arrogant, 
ignorant, and very unprofessional if you are a scientist yourself.
