Hello,
If my memory serves me right, the isolator tip is used to compensate for the
effects
of the signal source internal impedances on sampling voltmeter readings.
Without it, low source impedances would cause increased readings compared to
those from a higher
resistance, due to the higher charge that is transferred from a low-impedance
source to the sample-and-hold capacitor
during the sample instant.
A similar accessory, the 11072A, came with the HP3406 sampling voltmeter.
