I've tuned around when propagation is pretty good and the bands don't seem too crowded and that includes 20 m. Seems the only ones who complain about crowded bands are those that participate in contests.

A sticky point with me is the receiver performance of late model radios is not so good and that may contribute to what is perceived to be splatter
The INRAD 4 Khz roofing filter mod for the MKv may help in that area. I will have mine in about a month. In the meantime, bottom line is the overdriven amps and excessively wide (20 Khz plus) AM sigs.

The bands are not really crowded now and ham population is in decline
so why the big concern about bandwidth. The only time I see the bands
really full is during a contest. So let's get rid of contests.
