Rich hasn't mentioned the good meter protection info on his web site: <http://somis.org/D-amplifiers2.html> topic "Glitch Protection" and this diagram: <http://somis.org/D_a_02.GIF>.

No use having a good meter staring you in the face that is doing nothing ;)

On the RF-out position, the multimeter serves a useful function. On the grid-I position, it doesn't.

A SB-220 amplifier will work just a well with a 0-ohm jumper in place of R3 and it would tune up the same. . . Or, we sell 0.82-ohm 2w MF resistors for 20¢. However, the condition that caused the HV+ arc to ground - which occasionally causes R3 to blow probably should be addressed -- unless of course you have a free supply of 3-500Zs and Heath 200uA meter movements.

If all you have is Radio Shack, 12 x 10 ohm 1/2 watt resistors in parallel
would be .83 ohms. That would be within the normal tolerance of resistors
and still be pretty small.
