I am trying to stay calm....

I am trying to open up the cabinet on my Command VHF-1200. It uses
screws with recessed hex heads. I was able to remove some of them, but
some seemed to be put in extra tight and in trying to unscrew them I
have rounded the hexagonal shape. The screw heads are so shaped that
you can't even grip then with a pliers, etc. Is my only recourse
drilling out the screws? How can I do that without damaging the female
threads on the frame? Or should I plan on replacing the screws with
self-tappers?

73, Joe
