If you're talking tubes, it's interesting. PIN diodes are available that 
withstand 2000 volts, so for say a  pair of 3-500Z at 3000 volts, you'd need at 
least 3 in series. But then the problem comes of the current, since you'd need 
to handle 20 amps or so, which would eman a pretty big current through the PIN.
I would use the old fashioned Ledex, or motorise a regular switch.
